Hey friends.....
here I m just sharing with u some XP tricks.....
although all of these tricks are tried and tested* but please just make sure that u have a backup of important things on your computer.....



1) Sometimes when you are trying to download something on your college computer then you may not be able to do so and a error message is being displayed :



Access Denied: Error Message - Windows Update



Network policy settings prevent you from using Windows Update to download and install updates on your computer. If you believe you have received this message in error, please check with your system administrator.



For Windows XP Pro:



Start/Run/gpedit.msc. User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Update. In the right pane, double click, Remove access to all Windows Update Features and set it to disabled.



For Windows XP Home Edition:



Start/Run/Regedit



HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate



Locate the value in the right pane called DisableWindowsUpdateAccess. Double click this entry and change the value to 0 (zero) or right click it and select Delete.



2)Add and Remove : Do you want to hide selective programs/applications listed in Add or Remove options in Control Panel :



Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall



Local the program in question in the left pane. In the right pane, right click DisplayName and select rename: Add Quiet so it will read:
QuietDisplayName. No reboot or refresh needed. Open Add or Remove - the listing is now gone. To revert, rename back to DisplayName.



3) How to use Address Bar in Microsoft Internet Explorer with your keyboard :



In Microsoft Internet Explorer, use Alt + D to highlight the address bar. This allows you to enter a URL without the
mouse. And if you're still typing "http", "www", and ".com" as part of the address -- don't. It's just not necessary.



4)Microsoft reserves 20% (not 50%) of your available bandwidth for their own purposes like Windows Updates and interrogating your PC etc. You can get it back :



Click Start then Run and type "gpedit.msc" without quotes.This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:
Local Computer Policy
then Computer Configuration
then Administrative Templates then Network then QOS Packet Scheduler and then to Limit Reservable Bandwidth.



Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."
So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to 0 (not 50). This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.It works on Win 2000 as well. It will not work in win.98...



5)Steps to install windows XP :



Switch On your computer go to BIOS(Basic Input OutPut System) by pressing del key or in some computers you havce to press F1 key .
In bios chose the option LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS. Save and exit BIOS thn . ( LOAD SETUP DEFAULT IS THE BEST CONFIGURATION TO INSTALL WINDOWS) Insert you bootable Windows XP CD . thn whn its boots del all you partitions and get your hardisk in the State of NEW RAW .
Then make partions as u require. then setup will ask you to format it NOW make sure you chose NTFS and not the NTFS QUICK thn it should format and copy files . And if setup gives the same problem after restarting then your WIN Xp CD is damged



6) Cool Alt-key codes :



Hold down the alt key and use the number pad on the far right of your keyboard to type out the 4-character code. When you release the alt key, the character will appear. You can use these Alt-key codes in wordpad, notepad, Microsoft Frontpage etc.....

7)RUN Command :



right click on start menu...open propeties.....start menu tab...customize.....advanced.....check on box- run command .



8)How to check invisibilty status of a person in yahoo :



First Method: Doodle Method



1. Double Click on the user whose status you want to check.


2. A message window will open.


3. Click IMVironment button, select See all IMVironments, select Yahoo! Tools or
Interactive Fun, and click on Doodle.


4. The last step and the most important step. After loading the Doodle IMVironment, there will be two possibilities.


a) If the user is offline, the Doodle area will show “waiting for your friend to load Doodle” continuously.


b) If the user is online (in invisible mode), after few seconds (it can take up to one minute, depending on connection speed), you will get a blank page. So the user is online




9)FREECELL trick :



while playing press ctrl+shift+f10 and choose abort to win then double click on any card to instantly win

11)BRANDING WINDOWS :




open notepad dump the following lines into it and save it with the name OEMINFO.INI in the c:\windows\system32 directory:

Save the file, then make a right click on my computer select properties, in the general tab a button will be highlighted (support information) make a click on it, you will be able to see the changes.
Now if you want to display some more information then simply increase the line in the file.
ex: Line4=Your Working Hours Here
